Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced lead senior technical writer who can scope, schedule, and write documentation for system administrators, data integration engineers, application developers, and end users. This is a hands-on opportunity to own the documentation for a major product line and bring the documentation up to parity with the software, expand the content to include role-based guidance, and help develop innovative approaches to integrating the documentation into the product and incorporating user-defined content.
Responsibilities:
• With minimal supervision, design and create a high-quality documentation set
• Work closely with developers, professional services personnel, and product management and comb the users forums and defect-tracking system to gain information and knowledge and to develop best practices and role-based documentation
• Participate in a team environment, including bug hunts and design reviews
• Become an expert on the application to develop documentation content and examples, contribute to the user forums, and verify existing documentation against the application
• Create project plans and schedules and communicate documentation status
• Mentor and edit the work of other writers
• Play a key role in formulating documentation strategies, standards, styles, templates, and formats
Requirements:
• Several years’ experience as a lead senior technical writer creating documentation for system administrators, end users, and developers
• Must be highly self-motivated and know exactly what it takes to lead a project with minimal guidance
• Commitment to quality and the continual improvement of documentation standards, processes, and procedures
• Experience with Framemaker, AuthorIT, and web publishing
• Experience with bug tracking and source control systems
• Experience documenting large, complex software applications in American English
• Thorough knowledge of best practices and methodologies related to creating documentation, including single-sourcing and localization
• Excellent proofreading and copyediting skills and the ability to convey technical subject matter clearly and concisely
• Knowledge of online help systems and tools
• Ability to plan, schedule, and be flexible
• Knowledge of databases, OLAP, ERDs, XML, SQL, and data modelling is highly desirable
